Empire Media Personality Of The Week,
Mofoluwaso Similoluwa Arobo is an On Air Personality at Orange 94.5 FM, Akure,
Ondo State. In an exclusive interview with Empire Media, she made known to us
how the name Radio Pearl came into existence, and many more.
Below is the interview held with her:
Empire Media: Can we meet you?
Radio Pearl: Smiles... I'm Mofoluwaso
Similoluwa Arobo, born on the 11th of August
to the family of Captain and Mrs Oluyomi Arobo. I'm the third child from
a family of nine (including parents). I hail from Akata, Aheri Kingdom in Ilaje
Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Empire Media: Why the nick name Radio
Pearl, how did it came into being?
Radio Pearl: Wow!!! Radio pearl😊😊.
It's my on air appellation really. An on air appellation is a name that a radio
presenter is been identified with.
Let me start by saying that I'm a reporter
and a broadcaster at Orange 94.5fm in Akure, the Ondo State capital. When I
started my career as a presenter, I discovered that there was a need for me to
get an on air appellation since my colleagues had. The first breakfast show I
presented was with Adeolu Gboyega who now happens to be the Head Of Programmes
at Orange FM. At the end of the show that beautiful Friday morning, when Adeolu
was to sign off, he identified himself as "The Biggest Boy on Radio"
so in an attempt to mimic him, I referred to myself as the "Biggest Girl
On Radio."
After the show that morning, the then
General Manager of the station, Lion Tokunbo Jegede came into the studio and
said jokingly that "you're not the biggest girl on radio because you're
not big, henceforth, you'll be referred to as the smallest girl on radio since
you're smallish." After that day, he started calling me the smallest girl
on radio. It then dawned on me that I really needed to get an on air
appellation so people wouldn't start calling me the smallest girl on radio.
I wanted something unique and beautiful, so
in the process of thinking it through, the true meaning of "pearl"
came to my mind. Pearl is a precious metal. Since I'm a radio presenter, I
decided to merge the two, which is "radio" and "pearl" and
that means a precious being on radio.
Empire Media: What a lovely
appellation.
Empire Media: What brought you into
journalism, broadcast to be precised?
Radio Pearl: giggles
Well, I had wanted to become a lawyer. But
after three failed attempts, I decided to go for something else, still in line
with my passion and dream. That's because I love to do the talking than the
writing.
I love to express my views through my voice
rather than using pen on paper. I'm a spontaneous person and I love to express
myself whenever I have the opportunity to.
On the other hand, I discovered that God
blessed me with a unique and radiophonic voice and I didn't want it to be
wasted. I discovered that the voice is needed in the broadcast industry than
print😉😉
Lest I forget, aside doing campus
journalism in school, my first exposure outside school, was in the broadcast
media.
Empire Media: How has it been coping
with your profession, and all that concerns you?
Radio Pearl: Uhmmm, it's really not
been easy, but I hold on to one belief, which is that "With determination,
hard work and sacrifice, there's nothing that's impossible to achieve and I can
attain the greatest height in life" and that has always kept me going.
Empire Media: In years to come, where
do you see yourself?
Radio Pearl: I see myself doing great
things in this industry just like Funmi Iyanda and the host of others. I
should have carved a niche for myself in this industry. This is the path I have
chosen and I'm determined to succeed in it.
Empire Media: It been nice having you
with us.
We wish you success in all your endeavours.
We see you elevating and soar higher.
Radio Pearl: I thank you very much for
the honour.
