But the time I really took sporting serious was during our first inter house sport. I ran and won d 100m, 200m.
I had a few experience with inter school competitions back then but they where majorly 4x100m relay races.
Empire Media: What a good way to start with. What inspired you to be an athlete?
Emcally: For me it's the thrills that comes with competing especially the joy that crossing the finish line before anyone else.
But if I will pick just one thing for sure, it's d spirit of competition.
Empire Media: Spirit of competition? Don't you think others will defeat you then?
Emcally:Actually whenever I have a race that Is d first thing that comes to my mind, but that is where the spirit of competition comes in, when you know that you will give everything you've got and if you win great and if not there won't be any regrets.
Empire Media: History has it that you were never defeated in the 100m race in AAUA, is that true?
Emcally: Actually, no. I actually lost a heat when we were preparing for pre nuga, but all inter-faculty races from my 200l to my 400l we didn't have any competition in my final year.
Empire Media: You mean you were not defeated in all inter-faculty races from 200l to 400?
Emcally: Yes. If what I heard have been accurate, I still have not been replaced since there is no new 100m champion till date cause they have not had any major competition since I graduated.
Empire Media: What are the things that inspire, motivate you to achieve more excellence when it comes to track event?
Emcally: Well, at the top of that list is the desire to be known for something other than academics, to do something which can inspire others into trying something new.
Then also the track brings a special feelings to it, I always feel like I can do anything whenever I'm I get on a field and the desire to beat my previous mark comes naturally.
Empire Media: Wow... That sounds cool. So, what is your greatest achievement on as an athlete?
Emcally: I have two events I can never forget. First was at the pre Nigerian University Games. Although it ended in disappointment, I actually achieved something I have always prayed for, I ran a personal best time of 10.67s official time and also I actually started sprinting for over 8years now and the last race I ran in AAUA which was the 4x100m relay race which my faculty won, it was also the first time I won a relay medal after several personal ones.
Empire Media: Congratulations on your feats bro.
What is your greatest loss or the worst challenge you faced as athlete?
Emcally: Well, I think not getting to race at the Nigerian University Games is d only regret I have from my days on the track toll now.
Empire Media: Who is/are your role model(s)?.
Emcally: The best there ever is Usain Bolt.
Empire Media: Where do you see yourself in years to come, and what your advice for those coming behind?
Emcally: Well, even if might not get to pursue a full time career in athletics I definitely won't leave the line of sport, I will want to one day own an agency to help nurture talents like mine but at d right age to give them a better chance at doing this professionally.
And for those still coming behind I will just say with if you want to go far in this business, hardwork and dedication is the Kerry.
