
As the Ondo State Government is making frantic effort to start
implementation of the Mandatory Contributory Health Scheme, vulnerable
groups which include pregnant women are to enjoy free healthcare.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab
Adegbenro made this statement while placating pregnant women who
protested alleged increment in the levies paid at the State Specialist
Hospital Akure.
According to statement by the Ondo State
Ministry of Health Dr. Adegbenro who highlighted some of the effort of
government to ensure the people of the state are availed qualitative
and affordable healthcare, said the government cannot afford to toy with
the health of the people.
The Commissioner said the rift which was
uncalled for, came as a result of communication gap, as all that Was
done was in their interest .
He appealed for dialogue as the government will not go against the will of the people.
The Health Commissioner assured that the
Health Insurance Scheme will provide a pull of funds to run the Health
Sector and the vulnerable group which include pregnant women will be
adequately taken care.
The Permanent Secretary Hospital
Management Board, Dr. Adeniran Ikuomola appreciated the fact that the
Pregnant women had right to protest whatever they detest in a democracy
but appealed for dialogue as the woman in his words were in a sensitive
state.
He reiterated the commitment of the
government and the entire health sector to promoting the interest and
welfare of the vulnerable in the society.
The Chief Medical Director State
Specialist Hospital Akure, Dr. Moses Adewole said the decisions to lump
all levies under booking, was in the interest of the pregnant women as
all expenses during antenatal are subsumed under it.
One of the pregnant women, Mrs Margret
Okay who spoke on behalf of other pregnant women told the Commissioner
and his team the remote cause of their griviances and the Commissioner
immediately ordered a reversal .
